We know it is confusing trying to find the best dog trainer and obedience class for you and your dog. That is why we are in business and why so many veterinarians and canine specialists refer their clients to us.
Suncoast Dog Training offers the most complete and effective dog training programs in Tampa and surrounding west central Florida. We keep our class sizes small - no more than 10 per class - for optimum time and attention on you and your pet!
Learn from fully CERTIFIED trainers at the finest, cleanest and most comfortable facility in the area!
Certified by BOTH U.S. Border Patrol (under the U.S. Department of Justice) and the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), and head of his class at National Canine Facility of El Paso, Bruce Marshall has more experience and qualifications than any dog trainer in Florida, and is certainly more qualified than anyone with mere Internet Certification! (Read more about Bruce’s experience as a Animal Behaviorist and German Shepherd Training Specialist).
Our Training Areas
The training environment is vital to success. Training in the middle of some big box pet store with other shoppers wandering around is a true distraction. It is true that there is a place in dog training where distractions are needed, but not initially or when you are trying to attain a particular skill. You want to choose a facility where all of your dog’s attention is directed to you, and you are the primary focus of your dog.
We have been training for many years and designed our facility to get the most from your dog. Training is conducted on a level concrete pad completely enclosed with high-security fences. To gain entrance to the training area requires going through two gates that eliminate any possibility of bolting and escaping. The entrances to the boarding and training facility also have security doors. All areas are well lighted for night training.
In addition to the concrete training area we have a groomed grass area where the confidence training equipment is utilized. If the weather is not cooperative we will move indoors to an air conditioned training area. All areas have seating for friends and spectators and we encourage visitors to come watch the action. All training arenas are wheelchair accessible.
Our facility is conveniently located on County Line Road in Spring Hill, directly behind Critter Boarding & Grooming.
Puppy Orientation & Training
After an initial in-home orientation with everyone who will be involved with raising your puppy, this program will address everything from potty training, diet, sleeping arrangements, the correct words to use and dealing with unacceptable behaviors, such as jumping, nipping, barking, chewing and more.
Basic Obedience Training
The Basic Obedience program trains you and your dog how to perform the basic commands such as heel (walk) by your side and sit each time you stop, sit and stay, down and stay, and come to you on command. This program also builds on dealing with the unacceptable dog behaviors described above and others.
Our Intermediate Training building upon everything in Basic Training, only it takes it all to the next level for you and your pet, teaching you both how to work with hand signals and other non-verbal movements in order to build a higher level of trust and confidence required for the goal of the class: working with your pet off leash in a controlled environment.
Like all of our dog training classes, this one builds upon the previous class, with the goal of achieving complete control of your dog by using hand signals and off leash control in any and all conditions, including maintaining control in public and distracting conditions such as noise (gunfire, sirens, doorbells, cowbells) and other conditions such as bright lights, closed spaces, other animals and more.
Private Lessons / At Home Training
Does your schedule prevent participation in our training classes? Or even if you just want more personalized in home training … we’ll put together a program conducted at your home or our dog training facility that will please both you and your pet.
Does your dog have a specific behavior problem? Our staff includes a trained animal behaviorist who is also experienced with dog psychology. You do not have to put up with barking, whining, biting or any other irritating habits your dog has developed. In most cases the reason will be identified in one home visit and a course of action will be prescribed.
